ILLUMINATING THE MINDS AND HEARTS OF CHILDREN IN HOUSTON

PART TWO OF FOUR THE BRILL KIDS TALKS SUMMER PROGRAMMING

HOUSTON (July 26, 2007) – The Brilliant Lecture Series – Brill Kids Talks Elementary hosted, middle, and high school students from the FUUSA and Project Houston summer programs gathered today for a seminar on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) hosted by their partner, The Brilliant Lectures Series - Conversation with Brilliance, and sponsored in part by Schlumberger, People’s Trust Federal Credit Union, Comcast Cable and Capital One. The event took place at University of St. Thomas in midtown Houston.

The Brilliant Lecture Series presented guest speakers Neal R. Pellis, NASA Johnson Space Center; Lisa Neasbitt, NASA 21st Century Explorer Project; Dr. Charles W. Lloyd, NASA Johnson Space Center.  Each of them shared background on themselves with the kids and helps direct their vision to the future with the thoughts of Space Exploration and the importance of obtaining the very best education they can.

This was the second of three summer series planned for summer of 2007– which are specifically designed to encourage young people to view their own lives with fresh eyes and offer opportunities for growth and development by hearing how prominent people in the community have accomplished their own goals. Each made the point to students that it takes "ALL KINDS" of people to make a great space program and to Explore.  The environments for this series are more intimate and allow greater opportunities for dialogue with the speakers than do the larger events: “……A Conversation with Sir Sidney Poitier” for example.

Two more BRiLL KiDS Talks are planned. The next will focus on financial Literacy with the help of Capital One, Prudential and the Federal Reserve Bank on September 11th and HIV/AIDS in October 2007.
