We here at Brilliant Lecture Series would like to thank all of you that have come to many of our lectures and have participated in our Brill Talks but we want to especially thank all 919 fans that have liked us on Facebook. We’ve seen a spike in “likes” when we hosted the lecture with Betty White. We also saw a substantial amount of likes when we hosted a lecture with George Clooney but Edvin Marton…his amount of “likes” has been amazing. We truly appreciate the turnout for Mr. Marton and we definitely want you guys continue to spread the word. To show our appreciation, we thought we should offer a prize to one of you out there in “Facebook Land” once we reach 1000 likes. When we reach that milestone, we will select a lucky person out of the 1000 to receive an Edvin Marton CD! So come on, give us the thumbs up and help Brilliant Lecture Series continue to inspire and promote intelligent dialogue in the city of Houston and its surrounding areas. Over the past ten years we have brought some of the most interesting and inspirational people of the world to our great coastal city. Politicians, great thinkers, actors, philanthropists and entertainers have graced many stages here to inspire us to become better each day. Now we need your support to help us keep bringing these world treasures to our city.
In October 2006, we hosted a lecture with one of the world’s most interesting people…Queen Noor of Jordan. The Queen is known for being one of the world’s foremost women’s rights activists, child advocated, environmentalist and she also works very hard to promote peace and education. She has won many awards and has received many honorary doctorates during her life’s achievements. We were very honored to have her here to speak with us and hear her words of encouragement, hope, wisdom and guidance. The evening she spoke and was honored was truly a great evening and the city was quite receptive of the Queen being here to spread her message and her ideas surrounding helping mankind and fostering world peace. The ticketholders that night asked many delightful questions and the Queen gave many clear and concise answers….many of which cause us to ponder our own role in the world and what we do in our lives.
Once again, thank all of you for liking us and following our lecture series. We’ve heard your suggestions, we’ve read your e-mails and documented your call-in requests…but can you guess who is next?

Glamour and Fashion have usually been determined by Hollywood in the 20th and 21st century. Trends in clothing and movies have come and gone but the individuals responsible for starting what we see as beautiful and tres chic continue to inspire and create. There have been fashion houses that have been born and buried…some that have stood the test of time but only a few pioneers remain. In the world of fashion, beauty and appearance are everything. There must be a “Je ne sais quoi” about what is brought to the public, to inspire a twinkle in the eye of the fashion student and to make the public swoon. To set the “edge” between artistic beauty and outlandish design but remain on the fringe of normalcy or not is what the world of fashion strives for. There have been outlandish suits made of strange materials which will undoubtedly not catch on, bustiers that resemble the nose-cones of patriot missiles, cod pieces and huge geometric shapes that look painful not just to the eye but to wear.
